On Sunday I received an unusual answer from my mom when I asked her if she needed me to do anything before heading down to my parents’ house for Thanksgiving.
Naturally, “Happy to help” is an understatement.
She had already talked to my sister about it, who was completely on board (of course) with the plan. I’m pretty sure she’s been researching specialty drinks to prepare for this very important task.
When we arrived today it was only a matter of minutes before we opened up that cabinet to see what we were up against. I spotted a bottle of Green Label Jack Daniels in the back and immediately called dibs, but then my mom started talking about “using up bottles that are already open” first. Yeah yeah, it makes sense but I still asked my dad if he minded my opening it.
His response: “Sure, go ahead. But I want to keep that bottle.”
I asked, “So I can’t even take it home with me?”
So forget it. It’s okay, though. I’m sitting here with a “Gentleman Jack and Coke”, watching the “Dancing With the Stars” finale and acting like I don’t know who won already so my mom can experience it for herself. Oh, and there’s candy. It’s looking like a pretty great start to the Thanksgiving weekend.
