It’s A Baby Shower For Operation Precious CARgo!

I have signed on to do yet another thing. I know what you’re thinking:

“Is she NUTS?”

“She’s so busy!”

“She is DEFINITELY NUTS.”

This is really really cool, though. (And it’s short-term, which is a bonus.)

I have been asked by the lovely people of Chevrolet to captain a team for Operation Precious CARgo. The mission is to collect registry items for a deserving, expectant military mom.

So…cool, right?

Basically my “team” (and that includes my Social RevUp partners MJ and Dwana who are unofficially co-captaining) is made up of all of my local family and friends. Do you know me? Live in the Chicago area? You’re on my team. Welcome!

Over the next two-and-a-half weeks (through 3/22) I will be collecting donations of items from the following list:

Diapers (sizes 4, 5 or 6)
Baby wipes
Bottles
Pacifiers
Blankets
Baby soap and baby lotion
Lanolin cream
Burp cloths
Onesies (gender-neutral)
Socks
Hats
Newborn lounger pillow
Hand sanitizer
Medical kit – thermometer, mini-nail clippers, bulb syringe, etc.
Hooded towel and washcloth
Sensory toys and/or stuffed animals

How will I collect them, you ask? A couple of ways.

1. Save the date for Saturday March 17th! I will be at Chevrolet of Naperville, located at 1515 W. Ogden Avenue in Naperville (like the name says!), from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., hosting a very (very) (very) casual “baby shower”. I would love to feed you sweets when you come by, and chat with you for a spell. We won’t play ANY of those stupid baby shower games like blind-tasting baby food or guessing how long a piece of yarn we’d need to wrap around a pregnant woman’s stomach. I promise. Also, I heard a rumor that I might be making a rainbow cake that day.

2. If you know that you can’t make it on March 17th, you’ve got between tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday March 7) and Saturday March 17 at 1:00 to drop off items at the same place, Chevrolet of Naperville. The good folks there will secure the items until I leave after the baby shower!

3. If you’re in the city, you can email me privately at melisawells(at)gmail(dot)com and I will be able to give you information about a city drop off with either myself or MJ and Dwana. (We haven’t worked those details out yet.)

4. Chevrolet has given me a $100 Visa gift card to use for my baby shower and/or items for the expectant mom. I’m using it all for her.

Chevrolet is also loaning me a vehicle to use for a week so I can pick up donations, and I was ambitious, choosing a Silverado truck. A TRUCK. A truck that needs to be filled! Chal-LENGE!!

Would you be so kind as to spread the word to your local friends and family? They are welcome on my team, too!

Thanks in advance for helping me do a good deed for a great cause!

*I normally put posts about any of my work with brands on my “reviews” page, but since this is a good deed and I’m not actively reviewing a Chevrolet, I’m just putting it here.

This is a fabulous idea! I hope you can fill the truck to overflowing.

Great thing to do, I know you can get a lot of people involved. I will get a card with some money or a gift card you can use towards this baby shower I think those of us who do not live in the Chicago area could help too. We do have 11 days. Thanks for doing this.
    Love
    Grandma W

Why yes, you are nuts. And we love you for it.
You have a huge heart, amazing talent, and seemingly endless energy. And you always manage to wrangle all the demands of any given day into making the world a better place.
Thanks, Scrawlsie, for being you. Truly.

Happy to contribute! I think this is awesome… And just spent some time enjoying a great laugh from my favorite Cosby bit ever! So, thanks for that, too!

Hey, I just so happen to have a baby flight vest, diaper ointment and baby organizer/briefcase that I used on my NBC reviews that need a good home! I know they’re not on the list, but I’d be happy to contribute them, if you’d like. I will be driving towards Naperville on Weds and Thurs nights if I can drop them at your house or if we can meet after karate or doggy class. Saturday is kinda busy and we’re going to go to Disney FairyTales on Sat night…

    Let me know!
